womb healing

my holisitic health jounrney

I’ve never written a piece like this so for the sake of my lack of understanding and fear of being wrong - disclaimer!!! I’m not a doctor and this is not medical advice, just a girl sharing her experiences.

I started learning about holistic health and herbalism in college but really started diving deeper into my practice in 2021. What started as listening to podcasts from girls I followed online morphed into one of my biggest passions and what I hope to do for work one day.

First, I learned about seed cycling and cycle synching. This practice completely altered my hormone health (reminder- disclaimer!!) and is something I practice even while traveling abroad. It’s a food based ritual where you eat four different seeds during the phases of your cycle. Flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower and sesame seeds. Ground up and taken in yogurt or oatmeal or smoothies these little powerhouses balanced my hormones, especially when I was coming off of hormonal birth control. Cycle synching is eating nourishing, nutrient dense food that supports different phases of your cycle. Egg yolks and salmon while you menstruate since they're high in omega-3, leafy greens during ovulation to support fertility, and so much more. Not only do these practices support my hormone and womb health, they connect me deeply to my body.

Then, I learned about herbalism. I dated a guy whose mom was an herbalist and that woman was incredible. She told me when he played little league and the boys got hurt, she would chew up mugwort and rub it on their injuries, no medicine required. When I was feeling down, she gave me tinctures of St. Johns Wort and when my tummy hurt, Queen Anne’s Lace. We planted native vegetables in her garden and talked at length about how detached society had become from the natural world, how nearly all medicines could be foraged. She was also a level 3 reiki master and opened my eyes to the magic of energy work on the body.

I practiced yoni steaming, cupping, acupuncture and varying forms of massage. I learned about astrology and how much deeper it goes than your big 3. Viewing your whole natal chart as a key, a guide to your life. I discovered tarot, human design, numerology and astrocartography. I use crystals regularly in my practice (I attribute that to my grandma and grandpa who had the most insane crystal room in their house. Seriously an entire room dedicated to crystals). I regularly practice manifestation and mediation (highly recommend reading “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” for manifestation). In Indonesia last month I met a group of healers who practice their own form of guided mediation that brings you into your body, fully. Less of a - clear all the thoughts from your brain- and more of a- pain is inevitable and suffering is a choice.

All of these practices have opened my eyes to the power of ancient, indigenous healing. That's all holisitic health is, utilizing techniques and knowledge that have existed for centuries, in the modern world.

This journey has connected to my body in ways that society has activity tried to sever. I didn’t learn women had four phases of their cycle until I was in my 20’s!!!! I had to seek out all of this information, through social media, through podcasts, and mostly chatting with people. Sharing my knowledge and lived experiences to woman I meet and then receiving their experiences. This is the way I think life is meant to be lived. Woman sharing their knowledge, exploring shared realities, and their actual involvement with their health.
